As you can see I have changed the layout on my double page spread. I have added a quote with the main letters in white and bold, also I have made my text on publisher and I have added a drop cap as a lot of magazines do. I have also made the picture in to a linear burn, I think this makes it seem more professional and I think it looks better. I have also made the middle point between the Eddy and the Lart. And the music and the until. This is so you can still read what it says even if it has a fold down the middle. I have also made my text on publisher. I allowed me to make columns and use a drop cap.
Front Cover: How I got to my final piece...
I will now talk how I changed the colours, layout and text/font.
Colour After some opinions from my family and friends I came to the conclusion that the colours were to bright and seemed childish. After many variations of same colours pallet of my first draft (pink, blue, yellow and grey) I decided to change my colour pallet to light blue, black, white and grey. This is because I felt the new colour pallet changed the feel and the look of my magazine. I think it gave the magazine a tone of a serious and professional tone to the magazine. Layout I and other people around me felt like my layout of my front cover was poor. The title was to small and not in capitals and the background was too dark. I changed this to a big title in capitals that goes across the whole page of the magazine. I think it gives an importance to the title and draws your eye to the name. I have also changed the background to a lighter tone of grey. I think this makes it looks more professional and less crowded. I have also made an 'win an iPhone' by combining a circle shape, the 'win an iPhone' text, an apple logo and a white outline. I think that this is more creative than just the text 'win an iPhone' as I had on my first design. It is also more eye catching and it will immediately draw you to it. Text
Finally I felt the text was in a childish font and the artist didn't go with the genre. I fixed this by using the 'aharoni' font. This makes it seem more professional and less childish. I have also changed the artists because they didn't fit the genre that I selected which was the indie genre. Instead of having Justin Bieber , Nicki Manoj and One Direction I changed it to Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, Lanadel Ray. I think this makes it feel more like an indie magazine and made more sense to change it.
Contents Page: How I got to my final piece...
I will now talk how I changed the colours, layout and text/font.
Colour
The colours that I use was the same as the as the colours on the front cover: yellow and blue. Like the front cover I thought the colors were basic and unprofessional. I changed the colours to light blue, black, white and grey. This let me keep coherence though my magazine because I only used two of the colours in the first draft of my magazine.
Layout
The layout that I used in my first draft was very simple, it did nothing to draw you in apart from the bright colours. I thought that this was a poor design choice because it didn't have my model on it and none of the artists connected to the indie genre. I have fixed this by having a large image of my artist so you clearly know who the main story is about. Also I have changed the colour pallet that to provide more cohesion. And I have added a 'letter from the editor' and added a 'contents' section and an 'every week' section. This is because I have studied most magazines and most of them have these three things. Also I have added page numbers in the contents section and the bottom left of each picture. In the 'Every week' section it has a sneak peek section, this would allow the reader to get excited for next week.
Text
The text for the magazine has changed a lot for the contents page from the name, the artist, I've added the page numbers, more contents, the sections and the 'letter from the editor'. I think this adds more to the magazine and makes my magazine seems to have more contents for the magazine. Also all of my photos on my final contents page are original.
Double Page Spread: How I got to my final piece... Colour My 1st double page spread has the new colours because I made this one last. But I happy with these colours. Layout I have changed the layout of my design by having a different picture and using a linear burn and putting it on the left. Which I think it makes it looks more professional. I have also used the ruler on Photoshop to calculate the middle of my double page spread, this let me not place any of the words in the centre because you wouldn't be able to read the words properly. The middle of the page is between 'Eddy' and the 'Lart'. And the 'Music' and the 'until' Text The most notably different thing was the text. I have got rid of the 'vibe' name because it took up space and replaced it with 'Eddy Lart' across the top of the page so it is eye catching and draws you in. Also I have a quote so that people will know what the article what is about without reading the article. The quote has some words in capitals and white because it helps the quote stand out. The article on my final piece was done on publisher and added in to the space provided. This allowed me to make columns on it and allowed my to add a drops cap in, which most double page spreads use. |
