Colour scheme ideas, Name ideas and feature story ideas
Mise-en-scene location and prop ideas
Costume designs
I have chosen these three outfits because I feel they fit the indie genre. The first one I have chosen messy hair, sunglasses, denim jacket, black jeans and converse shoes. This is because when I researched the indie genre I discovered that a denim jacket and black jeans is one of the most common looks of the genre. The second design I have gone for a top and black jeans. I personally think that this is an indie look because it's simple and looks good. The third design I have chosen messy hair, a jack wills hoodie, a guitar and black jeans. This is because the guitar will link to music and the jack wills top will link to fashion which I think that an indie artist needs. |

A reader profile is what target audience you want to target with your magazine, for example 'A' is aimed at upper class people, these people are employed higher management. My research tell me that the average age is late 30's, early 40's, this magazine attracts wealty, and people who have well paid jobs, this tells me that they can afford higher priced magazine.
For Grazia magazine I have found thanks to my research that reader profiles A, B , and C1's gender ratio is 90.7 women and 9.3 men. I have also found the age range for each age group:
15 - 24: 28.9%
25 - 34: 27%
35 - 44: 23.6%
45 - 54: 9.7%
55 - 64: 6.3%
65+ : 2.5%

15 - 24: 33.3%
25 - 34: 28.7%
35 - 44: 20.2%
45 - 54: 13.7%
55 - 64: 3.7%

If I was using, A, B or C I think my reader will want highly accurate data about music and any other
things like interesting interviews, what's going on in the world of music, what celebrities think of things and gossip. I would also promote adverts in my magazine, this will bring more money in since company's pay so much to get an advert in a magazine. I will also add brands on to it, e.g. Topman, superdry, new look, etc, Also the price would be higher then D and E's because I feel they would have the money to spare.
If I were to aim my magazine at D and E then I would put the price down so that it can be easily affordable to this audience. Also at the back I would add job interviews at the back, this would interest the reader because they would be searching for a better job.
The reader profile will help sell my magazine because it will give me an idea of what the audience wants from a magazine and what I should be aiming at, for example the 15 - 24 year old are the most people who buy it.
The most popular genre was indie music |
Conventions analysis front cover and brief
Brief: To design a front cover, conents page and double page spread of a new music magazine. All images and text used must be original, a minimum of four images must be used.
I think that this magazine intends to show the audience that you should buy this magazine and promote Ed Sheeran because the main image is about Ed Sheeran. They do this by making the colours stand out off the page, for example the red is very eye catching because the magazine doesn't have any other bright colours. I think they did this because it makes the red seem very powerful and stands out from the page. I think that this magazine is also trying to promote the music industry because it has a different artist appear on the cover every week. This will promote the artist but also the artist will promote the magazine.
Institution:
The founders for Q magazine are Mark Ellen and David Hepworth, they felt that they could improve. Q was first published by EMAP media in 1986. They improved the music magazine by printing better quality of pictures and print. In 2008 EMAP sold its consumer magazine titles to Bauer Media Group.
Q magazine is not the only brand that Q has, they also had a TV channel that closed in 2012. Q also still holds a yearly awards ceremony called the Q awards.
Audience:
The target market for Q magazine is mainly 18-30 year olds. I think this is because they promote a lot of young artist for the the younger audience (18 year olds) like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. However they still promote a lot of older artist that 30 years olds can enjoy.
Represention: The person that appears that appears in this magazine is Ed Sheeran. He is portrayed in this with a guitar, this is his signature item and one of the things that you first thing of when you thing of him. I think that he is portrayed as an everyday person, for example his messed up hair and a plain jacket, he is not portrayed as a normal celebrity.
